The North Florida TPO provides research, planning and funding for bicycle and pedestrian needs. The TPO works with planning staff from the City of Jacksonville and Clay, Nassau and St. Johns counties to ensure bicycle and pedestrian needs are considered in local transportation plans.
In 2010 the group compiled an inventory of bicycle facilities in the four-county area and are now identifying strategies to fill gaps in the system. In 2006, the TPO developed a Regional Greenways & Trails Plan to serve as a “greenprint” for future walking and biking corridors and has made subsequent annual investments to implement the Plan.
The Florida Bicycle Association provides information and advocacy for the bicycling community. The League of American Bicyclists awarded the City of Jacksonville an Honorable Mention in the Bicycle Friendly Community program in 2009 and 2010.
