Bike/Walk

As more citizens and companies go green, biking or walking to work is an ideal way to commute if you live close to your worksite.

Benefits of Biking/Walking to Work

  • Saves money, parking fees (if applicable), and wear and tear on your vehicle.
  • Helps you stay fit. Reduces the risk of coronary heart disease and stroke, lowers blood pressure, and reduces high cholesterol and body fat.
  • May enhance your mental well being.
  • Biking or walking to work three times a week (Saturdays and Sundays count) makes you eligible to receive a free taxi ride home in the case of unexpected inclement weather if you live and work within our five county region (Duval, Clay, Baker, Nassau and St. Johns County). Our Emergency Ride Home Program (ERH) is funded by the Florida Department of Transportation, meaning you don’t have to pay to apply for the program.
  • If you choose to bike to work on a regular basis you may become eligible for the federal government’s commuter tax benefit. As of January 1, 2009, employers can reimburse you up to $20 per month if you commute via bicycle.

Get Started

Review Florida bicycle laws, pedestrian laws, and safety information.

Commit to biking or walking to work three days a week and register with us so you can apply for the ERH program.

Once you’re registered in our database as a bicyclist or walker, fill out the ERH application. All ERH applicants must live and work within our five county region (Duval, Clay, Baker, Nassau and St. Johns Counties).

Check with your company’s HR representatives to see if you qualify for the new bicycle commuter tax benefit.
